Ontario Invests in London Infrastructure, Jobs McGuinty Government Building Stronger Communities March 27, 2008

NEWS

Deb Matthews, MPP for London North Centre along with Chris Bentley, MPP for London West and Khalil Ramal, MPP for London-Fanshawe, announced today that the Ontario Government is investing in a vital component of the City of London’s economic development plan.

London is receiving $11 million for Innovation Industrial Park to build local roads, watermains, sanitary services and stormwater management facilities in order to meet expected demand for industrial serviced lots in the area. This investment is part of the $450 million Municipal Infrastructure Investment Initiative (MIII).

Improving infrastructure is part of Ontario’s five point plan to build a stronger economy. The government’s Budget, released earlier this week, also outlined investments in skills and training along with plans to lower business costs, support innovation and strengthen key industry-partnerships.

“Investing in infrastructure not only builds healthy, vibrant communities, but also stimulates future investments and job growth,” said Deb Matthews MPP, London North Centre.  “This funding means real jobs for Londoners.”

“This good news dually supports London’s economic development strategy and its industrial land strategy, both designed to bring new investment and new jobs to our community,” says Mayor Anne Marie DeCicco-Best.  “So, we’re confident this new funding will be a key factor in the continuing success of Innovation Park.”

“These are investments that provide the ground work and opportunities for growth and jobs for our community,” said Jim MacKinnon, President London and District Building Trades Council.  “ It’s a visionary decision that guarantees prosperity for the families of construction workers and for permanent long term good paying jobs”
