Ontario Shuts Off the Lights for Earth Hour Deb Matthews Encouraging London Residents to Take Part in Global Effort To Promote Energy Conservation

March 28, 2008

NEWS

Deb Matthews, MPP for London North Centre is encouraging residents of London to join her, the Ontario government and people around the world in turning off the lights for one hour on Sat. March 29.

The London North Centre constituency office as well as most government buildings in Ontario will switch off all non-emergency lights from 8 PM to 9 PM. Deb is inviting residents to join by turning off their lights and registering their participation at http://www.earthhour.org/.

Earth Hour is a global event to promote energy conservation and raise awareness of the threat of climate change. The World Wildlife Fund launched the initial event only a year ago in Sydney, Australia.

Dozens of Ontario communities will join thousands of homeowners in turning off their lights, a signal that government, business and the public are symbolically united in a fight against climate change.

Supporting Earth Hour is part of the government’s commitment to Ontario’s green plan.
