Ontario Provides Over $8 million in New Funding to London Hospitals This Year New investments to help Hospitals Reduce Wait Times and Improve Access to Care

April 13, 2008

NEWS

LONDON – London Health Sciences Centre, St. Joseph’s Health Centre and St. Thomas Elgin General will benefit from over $8 million investment in new hospital funding announced Deb Matthews, MPP for London North Centre on behalf of her colleagues Khalil Ramal, MPP for London-Fanshawe and Chris Bentley, MPP for London West. This funding allocation is part of a $667.2 million provincial increase, or 4.9 per cent, over 2007.

The funding increase will help local hospitals reduce wait times for hip, knee and cataract surgeries, and improve access to MRIs and CT scans.

Along with this huge investment, the South West Local Health Integration Network has been allocated a funding increase of just under 4% which will allow them to allocate additional funds in our region.

“These investments will ensure people in our area are getting the care they deserve,” said Deb Matthews, MPP for London North Centre. “Helping reduce the time people have wait for health care was a top priority for our government.  Many of my constituents have told me how grateful they are as they do not have to wait as long as they expected to have their surgeries.”
