London/Middlesex is Attracting More Newcomers Online McGuinty Government Helping London/Middlesex Strengthen Its Economy with Skilled Newcomers July 7, 2008

NEWS

The provincial government is helping London-Middlesex develop a website promoting itself to skilled newcomers.

More than $109,000 has been dedicated to London/Middlesex to expand its online gateway to attract skilled newcomers into the community.  The goal is to help fuel the local economy by attracting skills and investment.

The website is already linked to OntarioImmigration.ca, Ontario's first immigration portal.  It's expected to help newcomers get the information they need to effectively settle in London/Middlesex. The site will offer vital information and useful links to accessing resources for living, working, studying and doing business in the area.

Since 2006, 17 municipalities have received provincial funding to create websites or portals aimed at newcomers.  The funding is part of $2 million annually from the Canada-Ontario Immigration Agreement to promote these 17 communities to attract skills and  investment.

"I'm delighted we're expanding this website so we can attract other newcomers to London/Middlesex,” said MPP Deb Matthews.  "This website demonstrates how great the community of London/Middlesex really is."

“Linking with OntarioImmigration.ca will allow us the opportunity to promote our communities to immigrants,” said Mayor Anne-Marie DeCicco-Best. “This funding will help us get the exposure we need to attract skills and investment.”
