Strengthening Festivals and Events in London McGuinty Government Supports Tourism in London

Ontario is supporting festivals and events in London to help boost tourism and local
economic activity.

The province is supporting 4 festivals and events in London through the Celebrate
Ontario 2010 program, with an investment of $187,000.

With this funding, these festivals and events can further enhance their programs and activities to attract new audiences, increase visitor spending and create jobs.

London’s Celebrate Ontario recipients include:

  • Returning favourites -
    • TD Canada Trust Sunfest ($75,000),
    • Home County Folk Festival ($ 30,000); and
    • LOLA ($ 60,000).
  • Newcomers –
    • Native Harvest Festival and Pow Wow, Museum of Ontario
      Archaeology ($ 22,000).

Celebrate Ontario supports the province’s Open Ontario Plan, recently introduced in
the Speech from the Throne. The plan will build a new foundation for economic
growth and jobs in Ontario.

"The cultural and economic impact will be unprecedented for all of the London festivals
receiving Celebrate Ontario 2010 support. This much-needed funding will help them to
enhance their artistic offerings at a level designed to further put London on the map as a
major summer tourist destination. And because all of the recipients are free-admission
events, it upholds their commitment to reaching the widest possible audience on both sides of the Canada-U.S. border."
-Alfredo Caxaj, Executive & Artistic Director, TD Canada Trust Sunfest
